Shampooing a carpet was a popular cleaning method from way back until the ’70s. Although, surprisingly we still get asked by clients if their carpets will be shampooed.

For years, carpet shampoo cleaning has been an outdated type of cleaning. Thanks to deep steam cleaning (also known as hot water extraction) waiting for carpets to dry out has now been significantly faster. It is because of this that most companies prefer the latter and it is now difficult to find companies that still do shampooing.

Deep steam cleaning has a lot more edge over carpet shampooing if you think about it. It’s a lot easier to use and carry around as the apparatus is usually lightweight. Also, because the process only uses steam, it dries up almost instantly. While in the past, you would have longer waiting times to dry as thick shampoo layers usually drenching the carpet.

After the long process of carpet shampooing, then the drying time, the carpet will still be left with a sticky feeling on the surface due to the soap residue.

It will now become easier for dirt to accumulate on the carpet once it’s sticky therefore you’ll have to clean it more often. The chemicals used in the process will also give the carpet a yellowish stain in the future.

In today’s world you will only find a company using shampoo carpet cleaning in the worst of the worst situations. Imagine some carpet that is so heavily stained, soiled and dirty that it’s practically black and has been for years.

Generally speaking, the above conditions can justify the use of shampoo cleaning method. But nonetheless, even carpets in such state can easily be cleaned to a new like state with deep steam cleaning.
