Shampooing a carpet was a method of cleaning that was in demand until around the 70’s decade. Today we have better technology for cleaning. However, we still get asked by prospective clients if their carpets will be shampooed.
Nowadays it is difficult to find information on carpet shampoo cleaning. And very hard to find a company that still does this service. This is mainly due to newer cleaning technology called deep steam cleaning or hot water extraction. It has become well favored for its faster drying time.
In general, deep steam cleaning is the preferred cleaning method. One of the pluses is that its lightweight equipment is in much easier to operate. Another plus is that it dries up remarkably quicker as it only uses steam during the cleaning process. While the shampoo process would mean you’d have to wait longer for carpets to dry as it would require intensive rinsing to remove thick layers of soap that seep into the carpet.
Then, after what seems to an age waiting for the carpet to dry up you will still notice a sticky residue left on the carpet.
Dust and dirt will stick to this reside which would someday require a more intense cleaning which is counter-productive. Not to mention the chemicals of the shampoo will, later on, create a yellowish stain to the carpet.
In this day and age, only the worst carpet scenarios will call for shampoo cleaning. Such as a thick dark muddy stain, thick grime and a carpet that pretty much looks black and has been for years.
Overall, these conditions are enough to rationalize shampooing your carpets. However, it’s really not needed as there is nothing deep steam cleaning can’t do.
