Shampooing a carpet was a method of cleaning that was in demand until around the 70’s decade. Today we have better technology for cleaning. However, we still get asked by prospective clients if their carpets will be shampooed.

Generally, we can consider shampooing a carpet an outdated type of cleaning service. Taking over is a more modern method called deep steam cleaning, also popularly known as hot water extraction. This service dries up significantly quicker than shampooing. Making it a more efficient substitute. Because of this, it is now almost impossible to find information on carpet shampooing. And even harder to find companies that still offer this service.

In fact, there are a number of reasons why deep steam cleaning is a much better cleaning method than shampooing. It is easier to use as the equipment is much lighter. It is also less time consuming as it dries up much faster. Shampooing would mean thorough rinsing with water which soaks the carpet taking longer to completely dry out. Whereas the alternative only uses steam.

After all the whole cleaning process, you will still notice a sticky feeling left on the carpet due to the residue that the soap left over.

In effect, the carpet will collect more dirt because of the sticky residue which will then mean you’ll have to have it cleaned more often. Yellow blotches will also appear over time as a reaction to the chemicals in the shampoo.

In this day and age, your carpet has to be completely soiled, deeply stained and almost blackened by accumulated dirt for years to resort to shampooing your carpet. For the most part, no residential situation will fall into that scenario.

Generally in a commercial setting, this could be a justifiable reason to shampoo the carpet. But even then a carpet like that can easily be cleaned to look like new with deep steam cleaning.
