Almost every other person who calls us asks if the carpet cleaning service includes washing with shampoo. This type of service used to be popular until around the 1970s.

In the modern times like in 2019 and beyond, shampooing a carpet is now considered an obsolete cleaning method. A newer method called deep steam cleaning (also known as hot water extraction) has been the new favorite due to faster drying periods. That is why it very difficult to find companies that still offer carpet shampooing.

In general, deep steam cleaning is the preferred cleaning method. One of the pluses is that its lightweight equipment is in much easier to operate. Another plus is that it dries up remarkably quicker as it only uses steam during the cleaning process. While the shampoo process would mean you’d have to wait longer for carpets to dry as it would require intensive rinsing to remove thick layers of soap that seep into the carpet.

Then, after waiting for the carpet to completely dry up, you will still feel as though the carpet has a sticky residue left over on the surface.

Dust and dirt will stick to this reside which would someday require a more intense cleaning which is counter-productive. Not to mention the chemicals of the shampoo will, later on, create a yellowish stain to the carpet.

In current times, you’ll only find a company willing to do shampoo carpet cleaning if the situation really calls for it. An example of this could be deeply stained and dirty, grimy black carpet.

Overall, these conditions are enough to rationalize shampooing your carpets. However, it’s really not needed as there is nothing deep steam cleaning can’t do.
