A lot of the service inquiries we get asked the question of if our cleaning methods include shampooing. Carpet shampoo washing used to be a very popular service from way back in the 1970s.
In the modern times like in 2019 and beyond, shampooing a carpet is now considered an obsolete cleaning method. A newer method called deep steam cleaning (also known as hot water extraction) has been the new favorite due to faster drying periods. That is why it very difficult to find companies that still offer carpet shampooing.
In fact, there are a number of reasons why deep steam cleaning is a much better cleaning method than shampooing. It is easier to use as the equipment is much lighter. It is also less time consuming as it dries up much faster. Shampooing would mean thorough rinsing with water which soaks the carpet taking longer to completely dry out. Whereas the alternative only uses steam.
After a long wait, the carpet will be clean but you’ll still notice a sticky feeling of residue left over.
Due to the sticky surface, it’ll now be faster for grime to build upon the carpet which is counterproductive. The chemicals on the shampoo will also over time stain the carpet with a yellow like effect.
In recent times, only the worst case scenarios call for companies to do carpet shampoo cleaning. For example, if the carpets are almost black with stains and grime has accumulated for years.
While it can be justified for carpets in these state to be shampooed, deep steam cleaning can still easily restore carpets while the above conditions are present.
